Week 4 - Light and Shadow

In this drawing a ball was placed on an upside down stool and a piece of cloth was placed over to create some drapes. With these drapes shadows appear on the cloth and on the ground. There are different values in the scene which are the different shades of grey on the cloth. With these different values you can shade as there is differences between the greys that you can see giving the drawing depth and definition. For this drawing the light was coming from the windows on the left and most of the light was going to the top of the object. The drapery helps show the shadows on the cloth and the areas that are the darkest are the areas that are facing away from the light or the light is getting blocked by something else.

The there are some strong cast shadow but the drawing could be improved. The drawing shows the different areas and different values used in shading but for some areas other techniques could be used. Hatching and  cross hatching could have been used to shade the darker areas like artist do rather than having one way of shading like in this drawing.  The stool has some shadows as most of the light is getting blocked by the drapery but there is some light getting there because the light was getting reflecting and bouncing around the room as it was quite bright. A shadow could have been drawn on the ground to show that the ball, drapery and the stool are creating a cast shadow.
